Disclaimer of Liability

A boat (defined as including its helm and crew) sails entirely at its own risk.

Shanklin Sailing Club will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after sailing.

A boat is entirely responsible for its own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in a Notice of Race or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility. It is for the boat to decide whether it is fit to sail in the conditions in which it will find itself. By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that it is fit for these conditions and that its crew is competent to sail in them.

Nothing done or omitted to be done by Shanklin Sailing Club can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make Shanklin Sailing Club responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred.
The provision of patrol boats does not relieve the boat of her responsibilities.

Additional Guidelines
Sailing takes place in an environment that is potentially dangerous. It is the responsibility of all sailors to act at all times with the safety of themselves and of all other sailors foremost in their minds.
All sailors should wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
All sailors must wear adequate personal buoyancy at all times when on the
boats.

The club boats should only be sailed inshore of the yellow 10 knot buoys and within half a mile north or south of the clubhouse. We also recommend sailing up tide of the club should the wind die.
