Boat Sheds What a Team!

Saturday was a good start with Tony Murrant and his son Tod started with the task of releasing rusty bolts supporting the fencing, wire brushing and WD40 soon did the job. We managed to fit the steel box section cladding nearest the car park, without the need to reduce the posts width, (the posts matched the Box section profile).

Sunday- what a great team of workers, Andrew J brought along his chop saw, and powerful impact drills, Nick led the team unbolting and removing the fencing at the rear of the sheds, Stuart and Ian and others cleared the racking and boats to allow access to the cliff side of the shed. and Stuart and Bob cleared out the Zapcat shed of the muck which had come out from the earlier drain clearance.
All this expertise resulted in completion of installing the steel cladding, except for one wooden support ( thanks to Nick for bailing me out with some additional timber).
A bid thank you to all for such a great turn out and achieving the task on one weekend, truely amazing achievement.

The buoys and boats were also being worked on and Mary and Ian were busy in the kitchen keeping us fed.

Thanks to Mark for clearing out all the soil to allow access to the buried bolts used for the fencing, he also cleared up all the associated mess on the path to make it safe for the public. He has suggested we should make up a barrier to stop the mud from the shrub area migrating into the shed.

I have registered with Island roads as a member of the public the dangerous state of the car park owing to a broken pipe pouring water and detritus into a pond near the slipway. The result was they phoned me for more info. and are sending a Steward to inspect, lets hope they will take some action!

I have chased Island Roads today Thursday and they have scheduled an investigation to find the source of the problem, I have requested today that they clear the mud/detritus as a separate task. They have agreed to action this.

Update today 26th January

Thanks to Mark who has installed a gravel board to stop earth being washed into the sheds.

We had a small team today, and made off the joints on each corner of the shed walling.

We have decided that the shed nearest the path, will need all of the existing wood panelling to be replaced, it is too thin, has suffered from water ingress owing to the poor support and the age of the existing felt.

The plan is to replace it with Oriented Strand Board 18mm thick and protect it with Torchable 3mm mineral felt. Bob may be able to borrow some suitable kit.

We will need a weekend with suitable weather.

Island Roads have cleared the detritus from the car park!

Last weekend we fitted a new Right Hand door to the shed, the left hand will be finished this week.

Will be ordering the materials for the roof upgrade tomorrow from B&Q just need some settled weather.

Island Roads say hope to fix the drain problem by 10th February.........
