The commodore would like to thank all those that took part in the Preston race 7 today, it was very kind of you all to retire, allowing me to win the race by default as the only one to finish.

Erm. We didn't retire. We just couldn't see or hear that the course had been shortened when we were half a mile upwind of the horn, and the 10 minute/shorten light doesn't work.

Formal protest(s) have been submitted.

But congratulations on managing to cross the transit first. If we are up before the beak I shall make sure your win is not taken away from you.

It seems a complete waste of time to sail for 1 3/4 hours and then to be given a DNF because we did not hear or see the shortened course signals from out in the bay. Can I dare to suggest that we ditch the "shorten to the next buoy" fiasco and only shorten through the club line, at least that way we wouldn't end up with only 1 boat finishing after such a long race, when it is obvious that participants have not heard or seen the requisite signals then maybe the safety boat could convey the said instructions. Maybe we also only sail one race at a time, just in case there is a mix up there with signals, remember the distance from the start box to participants. I'm sure all of the correct signals were used today but that doesn't help when you don't receive them.

we need Sue back. It's only when the old men get in the race box that things start getting sodded up.

I must say that I didn't hear or see any signals, could we not just declare the race null and void and re run it at another time.

You wouldn't have seen the light signal - it's broken.

I thought you are a well deserved winner of the race Andrew! Well done! A win is a win!! It would be nice to be listed as taking part though, even though I retired. I seem to get confused with Mr Marks - obviously he is tall, dark and good looking! Bob Baker 1926 (boat number not year of birth)

The shortened course light worked for the full time of the shortened course.
