Well we've got the money , the instructors will complete their training next weekend and the 5 Laser Pico's are on order (probably arriving in June).

What I would welcome from this forum is some opinions about how to use these new resources.

We will need to run courses for both adults and children.
The boats can be made available for club hire.
We can offer private tuition.

Bear in mind we need to generate revenue to sustain the project in the long term (probably about £1k a year) and the instructors will be giving their time voluntarily and do have lives outside the club !

Questions:
How many courses do we run ?
When do we run them ?
How much to charge ?
Do courses include club membership ?
How much for boat hire ?
How much for a private lesson ?
Any other bright ideas ?

It's all up for debate - my own opinion is we would not hire them out to the public - too risky on lots of different levels.

I envisage that the boats can be used by members only whenever they want - however they will need to pass some sort of basic competency test first by someone (ie a committee member/instructor we will probably generate a list). They then pay a small fee (?how much - to cover maintenance) each time they use a boat (BACS tranfer or cheque to treasurer).

Do you have any cool techie idea's - online booking - booking of assessments -recording who used which boat when - payment collection ?

It would be reasonably easy to set it up for PayPal or Google Checkout if you wanted.

What fantastic news... well done and thanks to everyone involved. We will definitely, as a family, like to undertake a course, both child's and adult's. Once we are up and running, no doubt we would also like to hire out the boats, and will probably need some private lessons too! These suggestions sound like a great idea, thanks.

Well done with the funding!! Excellent news.
I did an adult dinghy sailing course at IWYAC a few years ago before buying the dart 15. Their course was on a Monday evening 6-8 over 8 weeks and was only about £10 a night (£80 all in). Kids courses were at weekends.
There is a lot to discuss!
Do you aim to cover up to RYA level 2?
Weekends only?
I would only hire if the helm has RYA level 2 minimum.
Cost and length of courses.
Temp membership of club?

Had a week in Morrocco and suffering with food poisoning since Sat! Still not feeling too good so will not be sailing for a little while!!
