New web site

Postby Dreadnought » January 30th, 2010, 6:59 pm

I hope you all like the new web site. If you have any comments please let me know through this forum, via email: liam@islandwebservices.co.uk or telephone 01983 721264 - or perhaps when you overtake my boat.

Very many thanks to Chris and Erling for all their help with the project. The old site was a tremendous resource in terms of information, pictures and sailing results and I hope we can continue in that direction with the new site.

I have reinvented the wheel by writing the results software from scratch using PHP and a mySQL database. Hopefully there are not too many bugs left in the system but if you spot any please let me know. The uploading of results should be considerably easier now and could be done with any internet-connected computer with just a web browser. All of 2009's results are on the web site with the new system.

If any other sailing clubs are interested in using the results software please do not hesitate to ask.

Well done Liam looks fantastic, all we have to do now is get all the members to use the site and forum.
The forum is a fantastic way to learn by asking questions. Again well done Liam. You can now go for a sail

I have also added a mobile phone optimised version of the web site at http://shanklinsc.mobi/. Hopefully we should be able to use it to upload race results with a mobile phone from the club house.

Great Website Liam (& Chris)

Chris has spent many years looking after our online presence admirably. He has now handed it on and it is great to see new members taking an active role in shaping the future of the club.

Thanks Chris and Liam.

PS - How about a Cadet Section we could upload to guidance/latest advice to etc. ?

Yes thanks. Useful breeze once I got out away from the cliffs. And I didn't fall off.

Well done Liam. I think the new look site worke extremely well. Looks good as well. Just a minor critique - why have Stuart Pierce on the cover when there are so many more attractive members to choose from?

Fair point. We need to take more pictures in the Summer. I have got loads of abroad but not many real quality ones with Sandown Bay in.
