Sunday racing (17th April)

The first race on Sunday is the Baker Challenge Series for Sprint 15s and the Challenger where each helmsman has his or her own private handicap. The forecast looks for a moderate breeze which should favour those with a slow handicap. Absolutely anybody could win this series if they sail consistently well and start and finish enough races. There is a normal start and the handicaps will applied after the finish.

The second race is the Preston for unarig or two-up Sprint 15s.

With the forecast for a force 3 this would be a perfect time for somebody to actually start an Odds and Ends race (11am). Any boat with a PY over 1000 can enter.

It is a race we hold every Sunday for any boat slower than a Sprint 15. But nobody enters. Might be something to do with everybody now owning a catamaran.

Either that or the lack of a cadet group! Would be great if one of the new guys (with young kids) might consider restarting it.

The Odds and Ends (like the Cadet Series before it) has never been well supported, even when people were giving up every Sunday afternoon.

But if anybody wants to race a Pico against Craig's trimaran, we will put a race on for them. The boats are ready to go out.

It was fantastic to get 25 Sprint 15s and the Challenger on the water today with all finishing the Baker Challenge race. Brandon did brilliantly to follow his grandad's favoured course and take the win on adjusted time. Meanwhile Tony Murrant managed to seize blasphemous defeat from the grip of glorious victory by reprising his Bart's Bash start ( http://www.shanklinsailingclub.com/cont ... s_Bash.php ), this time yards from the finish.

Sue did a magnificent job in the race box, taking down 26 times.

HOWEVER....

Please clear the course after you have finished. There were boats all over the area between the start, 1 and 2 and the last finishers had to zig zag their way around boats to get to the line. Craig was seriously impeded both ways and probably lost a position or two as a result. It makes it extremely difficult for the starter to work out who is finishing if she can't see the line. If you cross the line a second time and get re-timed, don't blame me.
