New season 2022

Dear members

Welcome to the start of what we will hope is a more normal sailing season at Shanklin this year. Hopefully the easterly winds will abate in the next few days and we will be able to get the buoys out in bay ready for racing to begin on Sunday 20th March. Look out for updates on the forum and WhatsApp.

Thank you to those who have already paid your subscription for the forthcoming sailing season, I know that the Honourable Secretary will be reminding those who have not yet renewed as the discount period will shortly end! We have a number of new members to the club this season please look out for unfamiliar faces in the boat park and welcome them to our friendly club.

Once again members have generously given their time over the winter to help with preparing the club for the forthcoming season and ensuring regular maintenance is undertaken. Thank you to all those that helped and the regular supplies of tea coffee and goodies on a Sunday morning from those behind the counter.

Congratulations to some members who recently attended first aid training on CPR and the use of defibrillators, we hope you will not need to use it! There will be further informal training available for all club members in the coming months please look out for information.

A new Zap Cat has been purchased over the winter and should shortly arrive at the club to replace the yellow Zap Cat that has given many years of worthy service to the club. We hope the new patrol boat will arrive from South Africa in the coming weeks and give as much valuable service to the club as its predecessor.

Our Honorary Secretary Sue Dyer who has served the club for over 10 years has informed the committee that this will be her last year in this role as she wishes to stand down. We are enormously grateful for all that she has given to the club and know that finding a replacement will be difficult. If you might be interested in following in her footsteps or know somebody who could fill the role please let us know as it would be valuable to shadow and learn from Sue before she steps down.

An important date for the diary is Saturday the 21st and Sunday 22nd of May when Shanklin will be hosting the Southern Area Sprint 15 TT event. Plans are already well in place and we look forward to many club members joining the racing and helping out behind-the-scenes supporting visitors. Look out for further news in the coming weeks.

The racing calendar is now on line and available in hard copy on in the clubhouse. The rota for sailing officer and patrol boat duty will shortly be published, look out for when you are on duty!

We look forward to getting out on the water again and the beginning of another successful season of sailing at Shanklin.
